Is Men’s Skin Really That Different To Women's skin?

We are constantly asked why we created a Skincare x Makeup Brand specifically for men's skin. Many people believe that everyone’s skin is the same, no matter the gender, but this is simply not the case.

Before creating Shakeup Cosmetics, we undertook extensive research to identify how and why men’s skin is different. Therefore, our products have been designed to cater to these differences.

4 DIFFERENCES IN MEN'S SKIN:

1. MALE SKIN IS THICKER

People who have Testosterone stimulation in their hormonal system will, on average, have 20-25% thicker skin. As opposed to people who don't have Testosterone as part of their main hormonal system. In addition to being thicker, a man's skin texture is tougher.

2. MALE SKIN IS OILIER

Male skin has, in general, more sebaceous glands. This means that they have more pores to produce sebum than women do. On average the sebum production is actually DOUBLE that of a women’s, meaning that male skin is a lot oilier.

3. MORE PRONE TO ACNE

Due to the extra sebum production and the higher number of pores, male skin can be a lot more prone to impurities and acne. This is due to the fact that the oil can clog up the pores which can cause breakouts.

4. SENSITIVE SKIN FROM SHAVING

Men tend to shave their face on a regular basis which can actually damage the top layer of the skin cells quite badly. Therefore, the skin can become more sensitive and can react to a lot quicker to allergies or other sensitivities.
